The development of computer aided design methods for steel framed composite floored multi-storey buildings - Phase 1
The objective of the research, which is to be carried out in two phases, is to develop a suite of modular computer programs, based on microcomputers, suitable for assisting in the design of multi-storey steel framed buildings, such that architects can be encouraged to utilise the full potential of such structures. The document Eurocode 3, when fully implemented, will provide a basis for architectural design throughout the Community. The ultimate objective of the research and development is to prepare programs which can be used in the design of steel framed structures in accordance with the recommendations of this code. Phase 1 of the project has included the development of programs for generating structural models, using an efficient computer database system which facilitates rapid data accessing for interactive processing of data, e.g. structural model definition, specification of member and floor properties, ready application of both dead and live loading. A program module has also been developed to analyse the structure for displacement and member forces.
