This is the final report of the Concerted European Action on Magnets. Section I describes the overall structure of the project, its membership, aims, objectives and organisation; it gives details of its funding arrangements and lists publications and collaborations. Section II highlights some of the many scientific and technical contributions CEAM has made in the field of rare-earth iron permanent magnets and points out several areas where further work is required. Section III contains the scientific reports of all the participating organisations as presented at the final contractors meeting. These reflect the work of the Materials Group (new magnetic materials and their physical properties), the Processing Group (magnet fabrication and processing), and the Applications Group (engineering applications of rare-earth iron magnets in electrical machines and static devices). An extensive subject index is provided.
