Experimental results from the TEXTOR neutral beam injectors
The neutral beam ion sources for TEXTOR are modified JET-PINIs consisting of an accel-decel three electrode extraction system. These were tested on the NI-testbed of KFA-IPP to gain the performance data for the operation on the two neutral beam lines of TEXTOR. A range of perveance scans were performed in hydrogen and the ion species mix was measured. Perveance curves were plotted and the best fit of the matched beam currents found. Source filling pressure was measured as a function of gas flow rate and neutraliser gas flow and also as a function of time, before and during the arc and at beam extraction. Neutralisation efficiency was measured as a function of neutraliser gas pressure. The injector beam line and diagnostic system are described together with beam transmission. A preliminary energy balance is shown, from which the power to torus can be determined.
