Damage assessment and residual lifetime estimation : an artificial intelligent approach to structural safety analysis
A research project for the Assessment of Residual life TIme for Creep damaged components (ARTIC) has been launched. It aims at building an intelligent system for dealing with the assessment of steam headers. The complexity of the problem domain can be handled by the capabilities of the proposed technology. The structure of the problem solving methodology is described, as it results from the knowledge engineering approach to the problem. The architecture of the expert system is addressed and the benefits of such an approach to damage assessment are highlighted.
