The design and implementation of the European radar cross section database (EURACS)Funded under: JRC-REMSENS 3C
The Euracs database has been set up in response to a need within Europe to rationalise research into microwave remote sensing. This database is designed to store the radar cross section and associated data of ground cover at microwave frequencies. Its development and installation have been commissioned by the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) Ispra Establishment of the Commission for European Communities and undertaken by Hunting Technical Services and GEC-Marconi Research Centre. The database has been developed as a facility for use by researchers into microwave remote sensing, initially to assist research into a range of activities including backscatter modelling, algorithm development and microwave sensor design. In the long term improved modelling techniques will be employed within the database to enhance the efficiency of data analysis. This will encourage other applications such as algorithm development for microwave product simulation. In addition, the database can be used to assist in campaign planning and training in image processing.
