Abstract

The paper reports the cross-calibration of four Active Well Coincidence Counter (AWCC) systems, for various high enriched uranium fuel materials, at the PERLA facility, Ispra. A methodology is formulated where future calibration work using one AWCC system can be transferred to any other AWCC. This would reduce the number of standards and calibration activities required for the calibration of a family of detector systems. The paper also reports some practical experience in the application of the methodology and the influence of U235 enrichment, density and chemical composition to the selection of the optimum detection mode for a particular material.
