Euratom experience in the measurement of MTR fuel elements using the active well coincidence counter
The paper reports measurements on MTR fuel elements using the Active Well Coincidence Counter both in a thermal and a fast neutron interrogation mode. A description of the measurement technique applied by the Euratom Inspectorate is presented along with results on a wide range of elements of different U-235 enrichment, chemical composition, fuel density and mass of uranium. The results are compared to measurements made on standard reference elements and conclusions are drawn on the precision and accuracy of the technique and its effectiveness as a tool for nuclear safeguards.
