The protraction effect of low internal alpha-doses
Protracted application of 224Ra in NMRI-mice showed two different effects compared to the single application: a) In higher dose ranges the osteosarcoma induction was up to tenfold higher after protracted application compared to single injection. b) In the lowest dose group (18.5 kBq 224Ra injected) an early induction of lymphomas was observed during and shortly after the injection period (36 weeks) in the protracted group.
