Abstract

A benchmark exercise on data analysis is reported between the EUREDATA members. Those participating in this exercise are INTERATOM (FRG), NUKEM (FRG), IMATRAM VOIMA OY (SF), VTT(SF), UKAEA (UK), University of Bradford (UK), EDF (F), ENEA (I), SINTEF (N), VATTENFALL (S). The reference data are a set of raw data taken from the Component Event Data Bank, managed by the JRC Ispra. This data set concerns 417 pumps which operated in 16 European power plant units (12 nuclear and 4 conventional). The reference statistical methods are exploratory data techniques, to be used for a first analysis, and inference techniques to give numerical values for the parameters. Each participant is asked to perform independent analyses. The main aim of the B.E. is to compare the methods used by the various organisations. The paper mainly illustrates and discusses the approaches adopted by the various participants.
