Selective steam cracking for energy and raw materials savings
This project was proposed to study a new steam cracking technology using a ceramic reactor with high ratio of surface/volume, which allows high temperature level and high heat flux. Studies showed the interest of high heat flux and especially of a square temperature profile which ensures an olefins selectivity increase. First experiments on the ceramic pilot confirmed that the studied technology allows such a profile and consequently gives high olefins yields. If the life of such reactors is proved to be sufficient, this technology could soon be used in industrial plants.
