Energy saving by reduced soil tillage
Papers presented at the workshop in Gottingen in June 1987 discussed the topic of reduced soil tillage as it affects plant production, practical experiences in different regions and possible ways of overcoming constraints. It was concluded that energy savings of 70-80% are possible compared to conventional intensive tillage, though the use of additional herbicides may be necessary. A need for further technical studies, particularly in machinery development and residue management, was identified.
