Legumes in farming systems
The meeting on "Legumes in farming systems" concentrated on economic aspects and management constraints, as viewed mainly by experts from northern Europe. The book reviews the latest technical information on parameters for modelling cropping systems of arable crops, as well as forage crops. For arable crops the N contribution from legumes is discussed, together with constraints due to rotation and potential yield as influenced by soil and climate. For forage crops the main topics are N fixation from legumes, yield potential and local references for forage production. Technical and economic aspects of legumes in farming systems are also considered. A simulation exercise to analyse the financial consequences of introducing peas in farming systems is reported.
