  • Economic and technical characteristics of the relocation of specific industrial sectors, as identified in previous studies, which contribute substantially to the Athens air pollution problem

Abstract

This study deals with the feasibility of relocation of six industrial sectors which are presently located within the Greater Athens Area and contribute substantially to the Athens air pollution problem. The sectors are: car paintshops, small foundries, electroplating, brick manufacturing, reclamation of lead and tanneries. The approach adopted by the study team concentrates mainly on two aspects. Firstly, the careful and detailed assessment of the economic, technological and environmental factors directly related to the sectors examined. Secondly, the search for optimum solutions which would bring about, upon implementation, the desired conditions for the efficient and effective means of operation and production, personnel health and freedom from hazard and environmental control and protection.
