Digital land mobile radio communications COST 207Funded under: IC-COST
This report summarises the results of the activities of COST 207 `Digital land mobile radio communications'. It is organised around three research areas: propagation, baseband processing and modulation. The main activities and results carried out within the project are as follows: 1) The definition of frequency-selective fading simulator characteristics and the choice of parameter setting for GSM test measurements, taking into account the results of propagation measurements carried out in different countries participating in COST 207. 2) Measurements of man-made noise in the 900 MHz band and construction of a noise simulator. 3) Modulation methods originally seen as possible candidates for the GSM system; GTFM, PAM/FM and GMSK. 4) Adaptive baseband equalisation techniques. 5) Forward error-correction codes. 6) Specification of the 13 Kbit/s net bit-rate codec and corresponding test sequences. 7) Specifications relating to voice-activated transmission intended to conserve battery energy in hand-held terminals, and to reduce interference.
