The development of diagnostics and data analysis on ASDEX is described, beginning with non-Doppler broadening mechanisms of CXRS emission profiles and their contributions to ion temperature measurements. Other topics reported are charge exchange cross-sections of highly ionised Rydberg atoms, impurity gas oscillation experiments, absolute calibration of neutron counters, indium activation studies and heterodyne far-infrared collective scattering. Later chapters discuss high temperature Langmuir probes, L(alpha) emission from ionisation gauges, reflectometry, pellet ablation and the ASDEX data archive system, DABA-SAS.
