Abstract

The report describes the preparation of a microcrystalline cellulose reference material (RM 302) and the certification of its water content when in equilibrium with the atmosphere above 10 specified salt solutions at 25 C. The results of the 10 laboratories that applied the COST 90 procedure to RM 302 during the certification exercise are presented and discussed. The material is shown to be homogeneous and stable when stored at temperatures not exceeding 25 C. RM 302 is intended to check the correct application of the COST 90 procedure for determination of water sorption isotherms of foods. The certified values only apply to measurements made by this procedure.
