Improving genetic disease resistance in farm animals
In this book, which is the result of a CEC seminar held in Brussels, November 8-9, 1988, disease resistance research is reviewed for fish, chicken, swine, cattle and horses. Special emphasis is laid on new techniques, such as protein chemistry and recombinant DNA technology, for study of the Major Histocompatibility Complex. Integration of the new knowledge with serology and its merit for disease associations are explained. Besides disease associations the use of immune response and pathological markers for disease resistance also show promising applications.
