European Community policy for the development of information services
The Community started to give attention to the development of electronic information services in the 70's. During a first phase, it has implemented the Euronet-DIANE network in order to facilitate access to databases available within the Community. Subsequently, it has provided incentives for the accelerated development of high quality information services. Now, following the approval of the IMPACT program by Council in July 1988, the aim is to build a genuine internal market for information services and to stimulate and reinforce the competitive capability of European suppliers.
