Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This booklet is one of a series published by the TEDIS programme in order to promote wider awareness of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange). It emphasises the development of EDI standards, in particular of specific message formats, at international level and the need for the participation of all sectors of industry in this. The uses of EDI are explained both generally and through examples such as quotation to contract, ordering/delivery instructions, invoice to payment, transport order and customs clearance. The more common telecommunications network facilities are discussed and the prospective benefits of EDI are outlined. Advice is also given on the implementation of such a system by a company.
