Abstract

The experimental procedures used for the centrification of nitrogen in titanium and titanium - aluminium - vanadium alloy are described. The mass fraction of oxygen has already been certified in each of these materials. Samples were analyzed by nine laboratories using five different analytical methods: heat extraction, the Kjeldahl method and proton, fast neutron and photon activation analysis. Sample preparation, the analytical methods used and the statistical approach employed to analyze the data are presented. The certified values are 117 g/g with an uncertainty of 13 g/g and 172 g/g with an uncertainty of 27 g/g for nitrogen in titanium and titanium - aluminium - vanadium alloy, respectively.
