DIE ELEKTRISCHE LEITFAEHIGKEIT IN TRAVALE UND DARAUS ABGELEITET IN DER KRUSTE EINE GEMEINSAME UNTERSUCHUNG MIT DEN METHODEN DER MAGNETOTELLURIK UND DER ERDMAGNETISCHEN TIEFENSONDIERUNG (T-10 - 10/4 S)
The aim of this project was to localize a known geothermal anomaly with electromagnetic deep soundings. Several European organizations were cooperating in this study. It became clear during this study that the environment presented some serious natural problems. + The sediments that cover the anomaly are 2 km thick and have a very low resistance (5-10O MEGAm). These values are of the same order as those of the anomaly. + Natural and artificial interference resulted using a standard interpretation technique, in a basement of very high resistance at 1-2 km depth. This is an artifact and non existing. + The area that was studied was too small and lateral influences could not be take into account. A new interpretation technique has been developed. The results of this interpretation are combined with a new geothermal model for Tuscany. This led to the following conclusions: + The geothermal anomaly receives its water from a deep fracture system of the crust. + These fractures are recognized as a low resistance anomaly. + Geothermal anomalies of the Travale type can be recognized using deep electromagnetic soundings.
