Abstract

The Project was promoted in the framework of a program aimed at developing the agricultural/animal raising sectors in the Mediterranean areas with a low agricultural productivity. The Project goals were attained through the following: - recovery of agriculture/food by-products and transformation thereof into pellets for goat and sheep raising, in order to reduce the current large- scale nutritional deficiencies in the Mediterranean area; - exploitation of the solar energy to reduce the conventional energy consumptions and, possibly, to allow the sector of goat and sheep raising to overcome its dependance on non renewable energy sources. Special attention was paid to the aspect of costs, such as investment, the cost of the operation, cost for unit of produced energy, commercial feasibility, demonstration activities and success in technical economics outcome. Finally, future prospects are considered, including improvements required, obstacles to industrial development, and potential market possibilities.
