IDENTIFICATION OF THE MOST PROMISING GEOTHERMAL OBJECTIVES OF THE RHONE CORRIDOR
The objective of this contract was to determine the geothermal potential of the Rhone Valley. Two drillings were foreseen and an interpretation of the results of other previous drillings are added to the study. The first hole was drilled near Valence (Drome) and the second one near Voulte (Ardeche). US Valence EUS: Drilling here reached a depth of 3666 m into the Upper Jurassic deposits. This formation was little fractured, with a low permeability, even after acidification. The production index was 20 m**3/j/kg/cm2. The temperature at the deepest point was 140 degrees C, and the salinity was 88-89 g/l. A production test showed that the reservoir was very limited. US La Voulte EUS Drilling reached a depth of 215 m, but with difficulty. The temperature was 26 degrees C. There were too many dangers to make it worthwhile drilling here. US Bourg-en-Bresse The exploratory drilling at Bourg-en-Bresse was made to study the features of the Jurassic deposits (Dogger formation). A total depth of 2255 m was reached. Water flow was very low (26,5 m**3/h), with a drop in level of 59 m. The temperature at the lowest point was 84 degrees C, and the quantity of dissolved salts reached 55g/l.
