Abstract

The National Council for Energy, on the strength of the favorable evidence collected up for the Strymon graben, decided in 1981 to carry out a geothermal feasibility study for the town of Serres. This study has 2 parts: - The first deals with the sub-soil and, from explorations carried out in the field and the synthesis of all the available data, made possible the evaluation of the geothermal potential under Serres. - The second, after a very complete inventory of heating requirements in Serres, defined different technical schemes for project realization according to the resource, with assessment in figures of the corresponding investments and the drawing-up of energy, economic and financial balances. This work was carried through to a successful conclusion in a very close collaboration between CNE, IGME, DEP, and BRGM.
