ANNUAL REPORT ON STGI THEORETICAL WORK IN PLASMA PHYSICS
This report presents in a more detailed form the theoretical work of the STGI as indicated in the annual Activity Report of the Departement de la Recherche sur la Fusion Controlee. Papers are presented on equilibrium (displacement of the magnetic axis and rotation ratio at the edge of the plasma, and construction of non-axisymmetric equilibria about a given toroidal surface), macroscopic plasma evolution (the makokot code), an ergodic divertor, waves and heating, and M H D equilibrium and instabilities. Other aspects under discussion were magnetic islands and turbulence, on which three papers were given, other instabilities (low magnetic modes and drift waves), kinetic theory, and spectroscopy (influence of plasma waves and electromagnetic radiation on atomic emission, scattering of near resonance radiation, stark broadening in inertially confined fusion plasmas, and the determination of Sr-Ar potential curves from an experimental line profile).
