DETERMINATION OF NITROGEN IN LEAD AND LITHIUM - LEAD EUTETIC LI-17PB-83
A simple and fast analytical method to determine the content of combined nitrogen in lead and lithium lead eutectic Li-17Pb-83 is reported. The method is based on the conversion of the nitrogen to ammonium salt, separation by steam distillation of the ammonia formed and final determination by acidimetric microtitration or spectrophotometry. Using 4 g of sample a detection limit of about 1 ppm can be achieved; the relative standard deviation obtained on 22 replicates of three different Li-17Pb-83 samples is 12.4, 8.2 and 7.3 % for a nitrogen concentration level of 2.1, 4.5 and 15 ppm respectively, while a relative standard deviation of 11 % at level of concentration of 2 ppm have been obtained in the case of two lead samples.
