WORKING FLUIDS FOR LOW PRESSURE ABSORPTION SYSTEMS
The cycle efficiency and the operation characteristics of an absorption unit is dependent on the properties of the refrigerant, the absorbent, and their mixtures. The most important criteria for the selection of working fluids are vapour pressure, solubility, density, viscosity and thermal stability. The knowledge of these properties is sufficient for the determination of further properties and the calculation of the major characteristic parameters affecting performance, size, and cost of an absorption unit. To avoid some disadvantages of the most widely used working fluids ammonia - water and water - lithium bromide, especially for use in absorption heat pumps, within the frame of an extensive experimental research program these thermophysical properties are investigated for several alternate refrigerant - absorbent combinations. This paper presents first results of working fluids with selected refrigerants of low or moderate vapour pressure.
