SYSTEM ANALYSIS, DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND COMMISSIONING OF A PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER PLANT TO SUPPLY COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT
The aim of this project was to design, to build and to test a photovoltaic power plant to supply a broadcasting transmitter. The project should prove in general the application of photovoltaic power plants for the self-sufficient power supply of broadcasting equipment. The city of Berlin (51 degrees N) consists of the 5 kW-p generator, the electronic control unit and a battery. A complete monitoring system is used. After construction and commissioning the plant, consisting of the components solar generator, energy conditioning and control, storage battery, and transmitter, the plant was tested for one year. The tests totally confirmed the expectations, gave valuable indications to improvement, and useful experiences for the construction of similar plants. Furthermore the field testing demonstrated that also in middle European latitudes photovoltaic power plants can guarantee a self-supporting operation of broadcasting equipment.
