FACTUAL DATA BANKS AS SUPPORT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
The role of factual databanks as support to environmental management and legislation is reviewed based on the authors' experience with the ECDIN data bank. Advantages and drawbacks of various techniques for building data banks are discussed. The problem of merging scientific and administrative data, and the direct involvement of a factual data bank in legislation are illustrated with examples from ECDIN. experimental work on interactive calculation of the labelling of dangerous substances is presented.
