Abstract

A simulation experiment was carried out, for measuring the pressure load of drilling hole pipe system through salt, and a mobile convergence probe (standard probe) was developed and tested in situ, for the repeated measuring of the heat induced drill hole convergence in the salt. The results of the measurements with the standard probe indicate good agreement with thermomechanic measurements carried out in the context of the EEC endeavour 2.2. Also, the results obtained from the simulation experiment corresponded relatively well with the expectations derived from preliminary theoretical investigation, with regard to the build up of pressure as a result of the drill hole convergence. Thus it was possible to demonstrate with these projects for the first time, the possibility for the routine measurement of the heat induced drill hole convergence, as well as a process for the determination of the resulting build up of pressure.
