Kurzbeschreibung

Various thermal and mechanical processes for dismantling radioactive large components and concrete structures were investigated in order to determine the optimal handling conditions and their respective efficiency. For the thermal processes, the separation of heavy concrete and steel components by means of oxygen lances, powder cutting, oxyacetylene cutting, and plasma cutting processes were tested. In order to determine the efficiency of the 1/4-inch, 3/8-inch and 1/2-inch oxygen lances used, the oxygen consumption, lance wear, cutting speed, and the amount of slag deposition in relation to the various oxygen pressures of the various types of lances were measured. During these tests it became apparent that the best results with regard to the amount of slag deposited (secondary waste), lance wear, and oxygen consumption for heavy concrete were to be achieved with the 1/4-inch lance. For steel, however, the 3/8-inch lance type showed better results as the 1/4-inch lance could not manage a continuous cutting movement.
