Abstract

Economic as well as ecological reasons justify the development of new methodologies for monitoring sugar beet diseases. Two test sites characterized by different climatic conditions were chosen for the study (Bologna, Italy and Mannheim, FR of Germany). The investigations concerned the spectral reflectance characteristics, the thermal behaviour, and included an attempt to use computer-aided classification with airborne multispectral scanner data. The results of these three different areas of investigation are described in detail and interpreted.
