  • QUALITY MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME, FOR LEAD AND CADMIUM MONITORING IN BLOOD BY ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROMETRY IN THE FRAMEWORK OF BIOLOGICAL SURVEY OF POPULATION

Abstract

Framework of Biological Survey of Population This paper examines the approach adopted by the Commission of the European Communities to Quality Control (QC) exercise during population monitoring survey for the determination of trace metals such as lead and cadmium in blood. The aim was to establish a good laboratory practice for the laboratories participating in this epidemiological investigation. The monitoring of the QC consists of an Internal Quality Control (IQC) and an External Quality Control (EQC). There is also reported some Italian experience in a QC program (according to the outlined scheme) concerning the E.C.C. Directive on biological screening of the population for lead.
