Abstract

The scope of the book is the methods, tools and database facilities needed to provide support to the whole life cycle of large scale software systems written in Ada. Although the focus is on Ada as the target programming language few of the methods and tools studied are influenced by the characteristics of Ada. In particular almost all of the management methods are independent of Ada. Thus the book has considerable relevance to the production of software in languages other than Ada. The book also focuses on the development of embedded systems, but again this bias has comparatively little impact on the generality of the discussion of methods and tools. The method investigated provide guidelines for software development, maintenance, and management. The aim when selecting methods for investigation was to produce a coherent methodology which would assist in the cost effective production of reliable systems which could be shown to satisfy their requirements.
