Abstract

Conceivable 3-He breeding cycles based on Deuterium reactors are compared, introducing appropriate parameters to evaluate the breeding efficiencies and the ignition conditions of the breeding plasmas. "Partially" and "naturally"- catalyzed Deuterium reactors, with ideal ignition temperature about 28 keV, turn out to be the most attractive breeders. In a cycle based on these reactors, with T producing blankets, the ratio of the thermal energy released in D - 3-He reactors to that released by the 3-He breeders ("energy breeding ratio") would be about two. This figure is halved if reactors without blanket are considered.
