Abstract

A Fokker-Planck calculation of the interaction between ECRH driven and ohmic currents is presented. For high values of the parallel velocity of the resonant electrons, the current driven by electron cyclotron resonance heating is found to be substantially enhanced as a result of the distortion of the electron distribution function due to the electric field. The increase in current results principally from the increase in the number of resonant electrons. For absorption by resonant electrons of low parallel velocity the electron cyclotron heating reduces the ohmic current.
