Abstract

A possible explanation of the density limit for Current Drive is the onset of ion absorption. This implies a limit proportional to the ion mass which has not been verified by the experiments. Here we show that the presence of a Hydrogen minority (+- 1 %) in a D plasma eliminates the mass dependence of the density limit. Careful measurements of H and D neutral energy spectra in D plasmas of FT actually show that the occurrence of the density limit is due to the onset of strong absorption by the H minority. Another result is also a large broadening of the n-" spectrum which confirms the conclusions of previous experiments.
