THE INSIS PROGRAMME - INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY OF THE OFFICE WORKER
This paper reports progress on the INSIS programme of the European Communities. The findings and recommendations of recent studies on user requirements for information technology are presented. From these a generalized architecture for INSIS is described; it can be mapped onto the ISO 7-layer model for open system interconnection. The need for standards for human - machine, inter-system and inter-service interfaces is stressed. Two proposed pilot projects are outlined. One concerns high speed document transmission among public administration offices in the capital cities of the Community. The other is about the implantation of a local area network to facilitate written communications and access to local data bases and data banks in a large building, with special consideration of translation of texts.
