DIGEST OF CASE LAW RELATING TO THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES
Lawyers must take account of Community law in an increasing number of fields. The Court of Justice of the European Communities has undertaken the publication of the Digest of case law relating to the European Communities in order to promote awareness of Community law, which is often to little known. Issue 1 of the A Series of the Digest, covering the years 1977 to 1980, deals with the judgements of the Court of Justice relating to the EEC, ECSC and EAEC Treaties and secondary law. The A Series is divided into four parts: the first is devoted to the judgements dealing with the structure and general principles of the Community legal order, that is to say, the law common to the three Communities, whilst the three following parts treat the law of the EEC, the ECSC and the EAEC respectively. Each part is divided into chapters whose demarcation follows very closely that of the Treaties establishing the Communities, so that practitioners seeking information on Community law will be familiar with the approach adopted in the Digest. Each chapter is in turn divided into a series of headings, an example of which is reproduced opposite. The number of headings and the arrangement thereof have been dictated by a desire to give the reader direct access to all the cases on the various specific problems which the Court of Justice has been required to consider in the extremely wide field covered by most of the chapters. The A Series also contains various tables, including an alphabetical index of subject matter and a chronological table of cases, which are designed to make the information directly accessible to the user.
