LIQUID - VAPOUR INTERACTION IN VERTICAL GRAVITY ASSISTED HEAT PIPES
A gravity assisted visualization heat pipe has been constructed in order to observe optically the behaviour of the returning liquid under the influence of high vapour velocities. Various liquid flow patterns dependent on heat pipe operating temperatures and total heat fluxes were investigated. Entrainment was observed. The flow patterns are presented schematically. Special attention is given to the entrainment process. The measured overall heat transfer coefficients are related to the various flow patterns.
