Kurzbeschreibung

Biochemical parameters as indicators of radiation damage would be rapid and simple to execute and might therefore be suitable to decide on treatment when large numbers of persons are involved in radiation accidents. The principal difficulties of such indicators are their low specificity and the lack of information on man. In our studies on potential biochemical indicators in rats, about 28 parameters in urine and 23 parameters in serum were determined after different doses of acute whole- and half body irradiation. Several parameters are useful to assess the degree of damage inflicted by the exposure in rats. However, the best indicators for rats are not suitable in man because of differences in metabolism, and for the others, no comparative information is so far available for the behaviour in irradiated man.
