Abstract

Taylor-Galerkin methods are developed for accurate numerical solutions of the wave equation by means of linear finite elements. Generalized, high order accurate, time-stepping methods are employed which, combined with the high spatial accuracy attainable with the standard Galerkin formulation, produce numerical schemes with excellent characteristics. Numerical applications in one space dimension show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
