Abstract

The present environmental conditions for the economic application of carbide fast breeder fuels are compared with the European and American radiation procedures, corresponding to specific He-bonded fuel rods and working conditions. Although in Europe one has not yet gained experience with high burn-offs for He-bonded carbide fuel rods, the latest advances in the production technology of carbide nuclear fuels and in explanation of radiation behaviour should make it possible to produce fuel rods in the European community which do justice to the present criteria for economic application.
