THE IMPORTANCE OF THE MACROPHYTES IN TWO LAKES WITH DIFFERENT TROPHIC DEGREE - LAKE COMABBIO AND LAKE MONATE (ITALY)
This study concerns the macrophytes distribution in two lakes with a different trophic degree (Comabbio and Monate, Northern Italy). Total biomass of macrophytes amounts to 143.6 t (w.w.) for Lake Comabbio and total phosphorus immobilized to 181.3 kg, while in Monate, it is only 21.4 t and 22 kg. This difference is due to the different covering in macrophytes occurring in the two lakes: 0.16 km**2 in Lake Comabbio and 0.06 km**2 in Lake Monate. From this study it is evident that the influence of macrophytes on lake metabolism widely varies with the morphology and trophic degree of the lake.
