Riassunto

Diagnostic and therapeutic practices involving use of ionizing radiation may result in exposure of medical staff, who must be subject to a radiation protection system. The approved medical practitioner is responsible for assessing fitness of workers for specific employment; therefore his primary tasks are: preoperational and periodic medical examinations of exposed workers, maintenance of medical records, interventions in case of emergency exposures. Moreover the approved medical officer well established in a clinic or hospital has the opportunity to perform other activities which are part of occupational medicine, in order to contribute to the health of the staff; he should act as medical adviser to the employer and workers about health preservation and he must visit the departments to observe the working conditions, paying attention to adaptation of workers to their job and taking into account exposure to toxic chemicals.
