OVERVIEW OF THE CEC'S ACTIVITY IN STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND MATERIALS RELEVANT TO LMFBR'S.
Since 1976 the CEC through the Working Group Codes and Standards of the Fast Reactor Coordinating Committee has undertaken comparative analysis of the different standards and codes used in the member states for the fabrication of structural components of LMFBRs. The aim of this effort is to eliminate gradually the discrepancies observed in the areas of manufacturing, structural analysis, materials and classification of mechanical components in order to ensure an equivalent degree of structural integrity. The work concerning structural analysis is mainly devoted to resolve difficulties encountered in using design procedures based on ASME Code Case N 47 and to improve the knowledge of material behaviour in the creep regime and under cyclic loading. Results and progress on elasto-plastic benchmark calculations and dynamic benchmark calculations as well as on investigations related to piping analysis, defect analysis and material behaviour at low and high temperatures are presented. Studies on materials are mainly related to tensile and stress rupture properties, fatigue and creep crack growth, fracture toughness and creep - fatigue interaction of austenitic steels. Specifications and properties of ferritic steel, such as 2 1/4 Cr, 9 Cr 1 Mo and 12 Cr MoV are also investigated.
