Abstract

It appears difficult to locate the HFR Petten in the framework of research policy. On one hand, point F.1. Operation and utilization of HFR as the only supplementary EEC programme occupies a particular political and financial position. Due to the large number of active irradiation projects on the other hand the HFR cannot be attributed to one single research area. Adequate assessment criteria will not be gained by comparison with other large-scale multipurpose research installations. The paper introduces into the organisational position of HFR, describes present and future experimental facilities, and evaluates future safeguarding of this reactor.
