HIGH TEMPERATURE HEAT PUMP FOR HEAT RECOVERY FROM PAPER DRYER EXHAUST AIR PRODUCING PROCESS STEAM
The aim of this project is the development of a heat pump or heat transformer concept which allows to produce steam using the exhaust air from a paper dryer as heat source. After a comprehensive technical investigation on heat pump types and working media that can be used for this purpose, a two-stage absorption heat pump with LiBr/H-2O as working pair was identified as the best suited solution. As not only the technical, but also an economic analysis, based on average energy prices in three countries, showed that the absorption heat pump is definitely superior to a comparable compression heat pump, a test rig with a heat output of 100 KW was designed and built to show whether the predicted temperatures and performance can be realized or not.
