METABOLISMO DEI COMPOSTI ORGANICI XENOBIOTICI NEGLI ORGANISMI MARINI - POSSIBILI APPLICAZIONI IN ECOTOSSICOLOGIA
In the last 20 years a large amount of knowledge has been acquired on the metabolism of xenobiotics in marine organisms. It has been shown that the enzyme system of mixed function oxidases is induced only by type II substrates. Therefore, an increased level of such enzyme activities could be utilized as an index of exposure to organic compounds (aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated and polybrominated biphenyls, dioxins, etc.), highly toxic to man which may be accumulated through marine food chains."
