Abstract

High purity aluminium alloys containing selected elements such as Mg, Si and V, have been developed as possible structural materials for the non-breeding blanket in the NET/INTOR design (low activity first wall option). The main characteristics of these alloys are reviewed and are compared with the commercial aluminium alloys (5000 and 6000 series) and with special alloys, e.g. A1 - A1-2O-3 alloys. As a conclusion, A1-Mg-V alloys seem to be viable candidates as structural materials for fusion purposes such as in the NET/INTOR line.
